Regular Town Board Meeting of
LONG LOST LAKE TOWNSHIP
March 14, 2007
Dave Johnson – Supervisor, Jon Jennings – Supervisor, Dick Toomey – Treasurer, Marv Mortenson - Cleck -Greg Scherzer - Supervisor
1. Meeting was called to order by Supervisor Johnson at 7:04 pm.
2. Additions to the agenda were called for.
- Old Business: Road Projects and Dumpster for garbage
- New Business: Location of Annual Meeting. Dogs running loose.
Motion to approve the agenda by Johnson, second by Jennings – passed 3-0
3. Motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes; approve the minutes of the last meeting as written. Motion by Johnson, second by Jennings – passed 3-0
4. Treasurer report:
-- Cash Balance of $17,032.12
-- Invested Balance of $25,543.20
-- Total Balance of $42,575.32
Motion to approve Treasurer’s report by Johnson, second by Scherzer– passed 3-0
5. Claims for payment:
$187.50 to Clearwater County for snow removal
$122.40 to Farmers Publishing Co.
$1,988.60 to Elbow / Tulaby Fire Department
Motion to approve payment, Scherzer, second by Jennings – passed 3-0
6. Old Business:
A. Resolution 2007-01: The board directs the Clerk to record the resolution with the county recorder.
B. Public lake access: Three emails have been sent to Mr. Kimball requesting an update on the status of improvements to Long Lost Lake public access. At this time he has not responded. Supervisor Johnson will stop by his office in Bemidji in the near future.
C. Road projects: Motion to hire Shegrud Backhoe Services to do the two road projects with an estimated expense of $5,780.00 by Scherzer, second by Jennings – passed 3-0
Sup. Jennings will contact Mr. Shegrud and will coordinate the staking out of proposed work to be done on Seaberg Road. He will set up a meeting with property owners, affected by the project on Seaberg Road.
D. Dumpster for garbage removal: A citizen made the request to have a dumpster located closer to Long Lost Lake. At present the closest dumpster is located at Zerkel. The board discussed this in depth. Concerns were as follows: 1. location of site and cost of land, 2. cost of fencing said land, 3. snow removal costs. After much discussion the board felt the cost did not out weigh the benefits. No motion was made.
7. New Business:
A. West Central Meeting: Sup. Johnson attended this meeting at the Clearwater Court House. No new information was presented. The primary purpose of the meeting was to update the county commissioners on the status.
B. Correspondence for the month: Several fundraising request were made. The board reaffirmed their stance of not spending tax payer dollars on fundraising request. The spring short courses for board members was discussed.
C. Clearwater County road maintenance agreement was received. The supervisors will read the agreement and take action at the April meeting.
D. Fire Dept. Contract for 2007: The motion to accept and pay the contract with Elbow / Tulaby Fire Dept. was made by Scherzer, second by Jennings – passed 3-0
E. According to the MN Associations of Townships the Annual Meeting can be held outside of the township if no suitable place is available within the township.
F. Dogs broke into Mr. & Mrs. Scherzer's chicken coop and killed all of their chickens (17). Mr. Scherzer followed the dog tracks back and they came off of the Peninsula. A letter will be drafted and sent to the White Earth Tribal Chairperson, with copies to the tribal game warden, Clearwater Sheriff, and local MN conservation officer.
